First, think about what type of role you want. Identify the qualifications, education, skills and abilities that are required for the role by looking at job postings and talking with managers who hire for these roles. Often the key qualities hiring managers are looking for are not clearly identified in the job posting!
Ensure You have the Qualifications
Once you understand the qualifications for your desired role, take a look at your qualifications and assess how well you meet the necessary qualifications. Do you need to add additional skills to your resume to be considered qualified for the role? What’s the best way to demonstrate that you have the required qualifications?
Identify Target Organizations – and Contact Them
One of the best things you can do is to identify a few organizations that you’d like to work for, and reach out to speak to hiring managers in those organizations. You will not only learn what they look for in candidates, but you will also be demonstrating key executive skills that the hiring managers are looking for such as motivation and initiative. The hiring managers will likely remember you when a vacancy comes open.
